Aleph OneAleph One is the free, open-source continuation of Bungie's Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity game engines. It plays Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity natively, and it also powers dozens of community-made games, from new levels to total conversions with their own weapons, monsters, music and storylines set inside and outside the Marathon universe. The engine on its own is not a game: to play, you need a set of game data files, called a scenario, and you copy the Aleph One app into that scenario's folder before launching it.Games
BZFlagBZFlag is a free multiplayer 3D tank battle game. You drive a tank in first person and fight other players on online servers, either with your team (Red, Green, Blue or Purple) or as a rogue that can shoot anyone. Game modes include Capture the Flag, where teams steal enemy flags and bring them back to their own base, Free For All, Open Free For All and Rabbit Chase, where every hunter goes after one rabbit.Games
StellaStella is a long-running emulator of the Atari 2600 Video Computer System for Mac and other platforms. It plays Atari 2600 game ROMs with high-quality TIA graphics emulation, supports the NTSC, PAL and SECAM television standards, and opens games from a built-in ROM launcher.Games
VICEVICE, the Versatile Commodore Emulator, runs programs written for Commodore's old 8-bit computers on your Mac. It emulates the C64, the C64DTV, the C128, the VIC20, practically all PET models, the Plus/4 and the CBM-II, and it has a separate emulator for a C64 expanded with the CMD SuperCPU. Each machine has its own program, such as x128 for the C128, and the C64 comes as x64sc, an accurate emulator with a cycle-based core.Games
ScummVMScummVM is a program that lets you play classic graphical adventure and role-playing games on a modern Mac. It replaces the executables that shipped with those games, so titles written for long-gone systems can run on hardware they were never designed for. The project is careful to point out that it is not an emulator: it is a complete rewrite of each game's executable. You add a folder with a game's data files, and ScummVM does the rest.Games
WidelandsWidelands is a free, open-source real-time strategy game inspired by Settlers II. You start as the regent of a small clan with nothing but a headquarters, then grow it into a settlement where every member helps produce wood, food, iron, gold and more. Roads sit at the centre of the economy: carriers walk along them to move goods from one building to the next, so laying out an efficient network is your job. You do not command each person. You order a building and the builders come, or order an attack and your soldiers march.Games
0 A.D.0 A.D. is a free, open-source real-time strategy game of ancient warfare, made by Wildfire Games, an international group of volunteer game developers. Each civilization is unique in its appearance and gameplay, including its units, structures and technology trees. Many infantry and cavalry units are citizen soldiers: they fight, gather resources and construct buildings, and they get stronger in battle as they rise through the ranks.Games
Marathon InfinityMarathon Infinity is the third game in Bungie's Marathon trilogy, a first-person shooter that is free to download as a ready-to-run Mac app. Its solo and co-op campaign, Blood Tides of Lh'owon, is a 20-level scenario with new textures, weapons and aliens. Having defeated the Pfhor and reawakened the ancient remnants of the S'pht, you face a world where friends become enemies and all is not what it seems, and the campaign sheds new light on the characters and events of the series.Games
Battle for WesnothThe Battle for Wesnoth is an open-source, turn-based tactical strategy game with a high fantasy theme. You can play it alone or in online and local multiplayer. Factions have many different unit skills and traits, so choosing and using your units is at the centre of each battle.Games
WhiskyWhisky is a free, open-source app that runs Windows programs and games on an Apple Silicon Mac. It is a graphical wrapper for Wine built in native SwiftUI, so you can create and manage bottles, install Windows software and launch it without any technical knowledge. The current version opens onto a library of your games and pinned programs, and it supports launchers such as Steam, Epic, EA App, Rockstar and Battle.net.Games

OpenEmuOpenEmu is a free, open-source video game emulator made for the Mac. Instead of a separate emulator for every console, it brings dozens of systems together in one app with a clean, native Mac interface. Drag a game file onto OpenEmu and it identifies the game, sorts it into the right system and adds it to a library that looks like your music or photo collection. Plug in a gamepad, pick it from the list and press start. Under the hood, OpenEmu uses well-known emulation engines, which it calls cores, such as Nestopia, Snes9x, mGBA, Genesis Plus GX, Mupen64Plus and Mednafen.Games- CrossOverCrossOver lets you run many Windows programs and games on your Mac without installing Windows. There is no virtual machine and no Windows license to buy: CrossOver translates what a Windows program asks for into what macOS understands, so the program opens in its own window like a Mac app. It is made by CodeWeavers, whose work is built on the open-source Wine project; CrossOver 26 includes Wine 11.0.Games
